When Yesterday’s Oil Is Not Enough

Times Of Refreshing Daily Devotional

Date: Thursday, 16 July 2026

Topic: The Fire That Refused to Die (5)

Focus: When Yesterday’s Oil Is Not Enough

🔥Theme:

Keeping spiritual passion alive through disappointment, delay, and changing seasons.

📖 Key Verse:
“The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out.” — Leviticus 6:13

Devotional:

One of the easiest mistakes in the Christian life is to rely on yesterday’s experience with God while neglecting today’s relationship with Him. There was a time when prayer came easily. The Scriptures seemed alive, worship was refreshing, and your heart burned with expectancy. Those moments were real gifts from God. But they were never meant to replace a fresh walk with Him today. God taught Israel this lesson in the wilderness through the manna. They could not gather enough for tomorrow because each day required fresh provision. In the same way, yesterday’s prayer cannot replace today’s prayer, yesterday’s worship cannot sustain today’s soul, and yesterday’s encounter cannot substitute for today’s communion with God.

📖 Scripture Reading:

  • Lamentations 3:22–23 — His mercies are new every morning.
  • Exodus 16:4, 19–21 — Israel gathered fresh manna each day.
  • Psalm 92:1–2 — Declare His faithfulness every morning.

💧 Refreshing for the Day:

Many believers wonder why their passion has faded, not because they have abandoned God, but because they have stopped seeking Him with the same hunger they once had. Spiritual fire is not maintained by memories. It is maintained by ongoing fellowship with the One who first ignited the flame. This is why Jeremiah could say, “His mercies are new every morning.” Every new day is an invitation to experience God’s grace again. Every morning is another opportunity to return to the altar, open His Word, lift your voice in worship, and enjoy His presence.

Do not spend your life talking about what God did years ago while neglecting what He wants to do today. Thank Him for every past encounter, but never stop pursuing fresh oil. God is still speaking. He is still strengthening. He is still filling hungry hearts. The fire that refused to die is the fire that keeps returning to the source. Yesterday’s encounter is a testimony. Today’s encounter is a necessity. Stay Refreshed!

Note This:

🔥 Spiritual passion is renewed by fresh fellowship, not by old memories.

🛡️ Responsibility:

Begin today with fresh time in God’s presence. Resist the temptation to rely on yesterday’s devotion. Open His Word, pray sincerely, and invite the Holy Spirit to renew your heart.

🙏 Prayer:

Father, thank You for every past encounter You have given me, but do not let me live on yesterday’s oil. Draw me back into fresh fellowship with You each day. Renew my hunger for Your Word, awaken my desire for prayer, and fill me again with the Holy Spirit. Let my relationship with You remain living, growing, and fresh. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

🔥 Prophetic Declaration:

I will not depend on yesterday’s strength or yesterday’s experience. God is doing a fresh work in my life today. His mercies are new every morning, His Spirit is renewing me daily, and the fire within me is being sustained by continual fellowship with Him. I will burn with fresh passion for Jesus every day of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
