When the Vessel Is Emptied Before Filling
Times Of Refreshing Daily Devotional
Date: Thursday, 7 May 2026
Topic: The Making of a Vessel (5)
Focus: When the Vessel Is Emptied Before Filling
🔥Theme:
How God shapes people for purpose
📖 Key Verse:
Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” — Isaiah 64:8
Devotional:
Before God fills a vessel, He often empties it first. We naturally want God to add more—more blessing, more anointing, more purpose. But many times, God first removes what would interfere with what He wants to pour in. Pride must be emptied. Self-reliance must be emptied. Old mindsets, distractions, wounds, and hidden idols must be emptied. An already full vessel cannot receive fresh oil. This emptying process can feel uncomfortable because it often involves loss, surrender, and letting go. Yet God empties with intention. He is creating space for something greater.
📖 Scripture Reading:
- 2 Kings 4:1–7 — The oil and the empty vessels
- Philippians 3:7–8 — Letting go for Christ
- Matthew 5:3 — Blessed are the poor in spirit
💧 Refreshing for the Day:
The widow in 2 Kings only experienced the miracle of oil when empty vessels were gathered. Heaven often fills what has first been emptied. God is not leaving you empty.
He is preparing you to be filled correctly. God empties the vessel to prepare it for fresh filling. Stay Refreshed!
✨ Note This:
🫗 God often removes before He pours.
🛡️ Responsibility:
Ask God what He may be emptying from your life to prepare you for greater filling.
🙏 Prayer:
Father, empty me of anything that hinders Your work in my life. Remove what does not belong and fill me with Your presence, wisdom, and purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
🔥 Prophetic Declaration:
God is preparing me for fresh filling. Every emptying in my life is making room for greater oil and greater purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
