When Jesus Begins Changing Your Desires

Times Of Refreshing Daily Devotional

Date: Sunday, 30 August 2026

Topic: The Life Jesus Is Forming in Me (Day 1)

Focus: When Jesus Begins Changing Your Desires

🔥Theme:

Jesus changes our hearts from within. As we follow Him, our desires begin to reflect His.

📖 Key Verse:
“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” — Philippians 2:13 (KJV)

Devotional:

One of the quietest signs that Jesus is changing us is that our desires begin to change.

There were things we once desperately wanted that no longer have the same hold on us. Things that once impressed us begin to lose their shine. Places we once wanted to be seen no longer matter as much. Even some prayers we once prayed passionately begin to sound different. Not because everything around us changed. Something within us did.

The closer we walk with Jesus, the more His heart begins reshaping ours. We start wanting what pleases Him. We become uncomfortable with things we once tolerated. We begin valuing peace over proving a point, character over recognition, obedience over convenience, and God’s approval over people’s applause. This transformation does not usually happen overnight. Jesus patiently works within us, correcting our motives, confronting our selfish ambitions, and teaching us to desire what has eternal value.

Sometimes we become frustrated because God has not given us what we once wanted. But occasionally, His greater work is not giving us the desire—it is changing the person who desired it.

📖 Scripture Reading:

  • Psalm 51:10 — David asks God to create within him a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit.
  • Philippians 2:13 — God works within us both to desire and to accomplish what pleases Him.
  • Psalm 37:4 — As we delight ourselves in the Lord, our desires become increasingly shaped by Him.

💧 Refreshing for the Day:

David prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God.” He understood that our deepest need is not always for God to change what is happening around us. Sometimes we need Him to change what is happening within us. Spiritual growth is not merely learning more about Jesus. It is becoming so deeply shaped by Him that we begin wanting what He wants. And perhaps one of the greatest prayers we can pray is simply: “Jesus, keep changing my heart until what matters to You becomes what matters to me.”

Sometimes the greatest evidence that Jesus is changing your life is that you no longer desire everything you once desired.

Note This:

🌿 God does not only change what you have; He changes what your heart wants.

🛡️ Responsibility:

Pay attention to your desires today. Ask yourself: What am I pursuing, and why do I want it? Invite Jesus to purify your motives and reshape every desire that does not reflect His heart.

🙏 Prayer:

Heavenly Father, continue Your work within me. Purify my desires, correct my motives, and remove anything in my heart that competes with Your will. Teach me to love what You love, desire what pleases You, and pursue what has eternal value. Form the heart of Christ in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

🌿 Prophetic Declaration:

Jesus is transforming me from within. My desires, motives, priorities, and pursuits are being shaped by His presence. I will not be controlled by selfish ambition or empty pursuits. What matters to Christ will increasingly matter to me, and the life of Jesus will become visible through me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
