SEEKING JESUS THE RIGHT WAY: BY FAITH, NOT BY WORKS

TIMES OF REFRESHING ONLINE DAILY DEVOTIONAL www.thefountspring.org

DATE: WEDNESDAY, 11 AUGUST 2021

Seeking Jesus is one thing, but seeking and finding Him is another. This builds up to say that there’re right ways to seek Jesus and find Him. We saw one of the ways yesterday—“Seek Jesus for the right reason”, today we shall be looking at “Seek Jesus by Faith, not by works”. Seeking Jesus and finding Him does not come from the work we do, but from the amount of faith we possess and from whom we believe. Justifiably saying, it’s our faith in Christ that produces good works. The Scripture is clear that those who are saved by faith in Christ always produce good works as a result (Eph. 2:8-10).

SCRIPTURE: Then they said to Him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom He has sent.” (John 6:28-29) ESV

REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: Seeking Jesus with the intention of finding Him by works rather than by faith is probably the most common spiritual error in the world. Many proffer works-approach to salvation, but Jesus’s reply to the people shows that the only ‘work’ that we can do is not to work, but rather to believe in Him, the one whom the Father has sent to provide salvation through His death and resurrection.

So, to seek Jesus the right way and find Him, we must never trust in our own work, but rather we must trust in God, through our expression of faith and believe in Christ Jesus. The first step is accepting that Jesus is Lord. All spiritual development is built on this affirmation. Declare to Jesus, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16), and embark on a life of belief that’s satisfying to God. Stay Lifted!

NOTE THIS: Seeking Jesus with the intention of finding Him by works rather than by faith is probably the most common spiritual error in the world.

RESPONSIBILITY: Ask God to give you the grace to trade trusting in your works, for the faith in Christ Jesus.

PRAYER: O LORD, give me the faith-filled grace to always believe in You, not depending on my works, in the name of Jesus’ Amen! (Go ahead and continue to pray)

PROPHETIC WORD: As you seek Jesus, may He increase your faith in Him to find Him, in the name of Jesus’ Amen!

BIBLE TEXTS: John 6:28-29; Eph 2:8-10, Matt 16:16
