Focus: He Was Speaking Through Closed Doors

Devotional:
There were doors I desperately wanted God to open. I prayed. I waited. I tried again. I believed that if the opportunity came, everything would finally fall into place. But some doors never opened, no matter how much I wanted them to. At the time, I called it disappointment. Looking back, I sometimes call it mercy. There were things I wanted that God knew were not right for me. There were places I was ready to enter that He knew I was not prepared for. There were opportunities that looked perfect from where I stood, but God could see what was waiting on the other side. So He closed the door.
And because I did not understand, I sometimes questioned Him. Paul experienced something similar. He and his companions intended to preach in certain places, but the Holy Spirit prevented them. What appeared to be a closed door eventually redirected them toward Macedonia, where God had another assignment waiting. The closed door was not rejection. It was direction.

💧 Refreshing for the Day:
Walking with Jesus has taught me that God does not guide us only through the doors He opens. Sometimes His clearest guidance comes through the doors He refuses to open. His “no” can carry as much love as His “yes.” His delay can contain as much wisdom as His answer. Not every closed door means God is saying no forever. Sometimes He is saying, “Not yet.” Sometimes He is saying, “Not there.” And sometimes, in His wisdom, He is simply saying, “I have something different for you.” Looking back, I can see Jesus in places where I once saw only disappointment.
The opportunity that disappeared. The plan that failed. The relationship that ended. The direction that suddenly changed. Some of those moments hurt deeply. But Jesus was there. He was protecting. He was redirecting. He was leading. I could not understand it then, but I can see His fingerprints now. And some of the doors I once cried over are the very doors I now thank God for closing. Stay Refreshed!
✨ Note This:
Some closed doors were not rejection. They were the loving hand of God protecting and redirecting your life. One day, you may thank God most deeply for some of the doors you once begged Him to open.
🛡️ Responsibility:
Think about a door that closed in your past. Instead of remembering only the disappointment, consider where your life went afterward. Ask God to help you recognize His protection, redirection, or preparation in what happened.
🙏 Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for every door You opened and every door You lovingly closed. Forgive me for the times I questioned Your goodness because things did not happen the way I wanted. Give me wisdom to recognize Your direction and faith to trust You when I cannot understand it. Help me never to force what You have not opened. Lead me according to Your perfect will, and give me peace to follow wherever You direct my steps. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

I trust the Lord with every open and closed door in my life. I will not be discouraged by what did not happen or consumed by what I could not have. God is ordering my steps with wisdom, love, and purpose. What He has prepared for me will come at the appointed time. I will move forward without fear, knowing that Jesus is guiding, protecting, and directing my path. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
