The Breaking Beneath the Surface

Times Of Refreshing Daily Devotional

Date: Wednesday, 3 June 2026

Topic: Buried Before Blooming (4)

Focus: The Breaking Beneath the Surface

🔥Theme:

Why God often hides, covers, and buries what He intends to make flourish.

📖 Key Verse:
“Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” — John 12:24

Devotional:

One of the greatest mysteries of a seed is this: Before it can grow, it must break. Not the soil. Not the ground around it. It must break itself. The shell that once protected the seed eventually becomes the very thing that limits its growth. If the shell remains intact, the life within can never emerge. So the seed breaks. From the outside, it looks like destruction. But from God’s perspective, it is transformation. Many believers fear breaking seasons because they feel like loss. The old version of you begins to crack. Old mindsets no longer fit. Old desires begin to fade. Things that once defined your identity start falling away. You may feel uncomfortable because God is dismantling what can no longer carry where He is taking you.

📖 Scripture Reading:

  • John 12:24 — Unless a grain of wheat falls and dies
  • 2 Corinthians 5:17 — A new creation
  • Galatians 2:20 — Crucified with Christ

💧 Refreshing for the Day:

The breaking is painful because growth always costs something. Jacob walked with a limp after encountering God. Peter’s self-confidence had to break before he could become a true shepherd. Paul’s old identity had to die before he could become an apostle. God often breaks the vessel He intends to enlarge. The greatest danger to a seed is not breaking. The greatest danger is remaining unchanged. Do not fear the cracking. Something new is trying to emerge. The breaking beneath the surface is evidence that life is winning. God often breaks what is limiting you before He reveals what is inside you. Stay Refreshed!

Note This:

🌱 The shell must crack before the life can emerge.

🛡️ Responsibility:

Do not resist the areas where God is changing you. Surrender the old so He can bring forth the new.

🙏 Prayer:

Father, help me trust You in seasons of breaking. When old patterns, old identities, and old comforts begin to fall away, give me grace to surrender. Let Your life emerge in me and through me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

🔥 Prophetic Declaration:

God is bringing forth new life in me. Every breaking is making room for greater growth, greater purpose, and greater fruitfulness. I will not fear the process. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
