Our Desires Begin to Change

Times Of Refreshing Daily Devotional

Date: Monday, 17 August 2026

Topic:  What Happens When We Stay Close to Jesus (Day 2)

Focus: Our Desires Begin to Change

🔥Theme:

The quiet transformation that takes place when we continually abide in Christ.

Key Verse

📖 Key Verse:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.” — John 15:5

Devotional:

When we first come to Jesus, many of our prayers are about what we want Him to do for us. We ask Him to open doors, solve problems, provide opportunities, and fulfill the desires of our hearts. There is nothing wrong with bringing our needs before Him. He invites us to do so. But something begins to change when we stay close to Jesus. We still bring our desires to Him, but we also begin asking what He desires for us. The closer we walk with Christ, the more His heart influences ours. Things we once desperately wanted may begin to lose their attraction. Some ambitions become less important. We start wanting what pleases God more than what impresses people. Our prayers gradually move from, “Lord, give me what I want,” to, “Lord, make me want what You want.”

📖 Scripture Reading:

  • Psalm 37:4“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
  • Philippians 2:13“For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.”
  • Matthew 6:33“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness…”

💧 Refreshing for the Day:

This is one of the quiet miracles of abiding in Christ. Jesus does not simply change our circumstances; He changes our appetites. We begin to hunger for righteousness, desire deeper fellowship with God, value peace over recognition, and choose obedience even when another path appears easier. Sometimes God does not need to remove a desire from our hands. He simply changes it in our hearts. And as we remain close to Jesus, surrender becomes less about losing what we want and more about trusting that His desires for us are better than anything we could have planned for ourselves. Stay Refreshed!

Note This:

🌿 One evidence of growing closer to Jesus is that we stop asking only for God to fulfill our desires and begin allowing Him to transform them.

🛡️ Responsibility:

Bring your strongest desires before Jesus today. Ask Him honestly, “Lord, does what I want agree with what You want for me?” Be willing not only to wait for His answer, but also to allow Him to change your heart.

🙏 Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for caring about the desires of my heart. As I grow closer to Jesus, shape my desires according to Your will. Remove anything within me that pulls me away from Your purpose, and create in me a deeper hunger for Your presence, Your righteousness, and Your Kingdom. Teach me to desire what pleases You and to trust that Your plans for my life are always good. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

🌿 Prophetic Declaration:

My heart is being shaped by the presence of Jesus. My desires will come into alignment with God’s will, and I will not be controlled by selfish ambition or temporary attractions. I will hunger for the things of God, delight in His ways, and pursue what brings Him glory. As I remain close to Christ, His desires will increasingly become my desires, and my life will bear fruit that pleases Him. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
