Loving the Giver More Than the Gift

Times Of Refreshing Daily Devotional

Date: Thursday, 2 July 2026

Topic: Closer Than the Answer (5)

Focus: Loving the Giver More Than the Gift

🔥Theme:

Seeking God’s presence above His promises.

📖 Key Verse:
“My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.” — Psalm 63:8

Devotional:

One of the greatest marks of spiritual maturity is this: You continue to love God even when He has not yet given what you asked for. It is easy to praise God when prayers are answered. It is easy to rejoice when doors open. It is easy to worship when miracles happen. But love is tested when heaven seems quiet. Job understood this. In a single season, he lost his wealth, his children, and his health. Yet before he asked for explanations, he fell to the ground in worship and declared, “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job 1:21) Job’s worship was no longer built on God’s gifts. It was built on God’s worth.

📖 Scripture Reading:

  • Job 1:20–22 — Job worships in the midst of loss.
  • John 21:15–17 — “Do you love Me?”
  • Psalm 73:25–26 — Whom have I in heaven but You?

💧 Refreshing for the Day:

There is a profound difference. If we love God only because He blesses us, our devotion will rise and fall with our circumstances. But when we love Him because of who He is, our worship becomes unshakable. The Father is not looking for admirers of His blessings. He is seeking lovers of His presence. This is why Jesus asked Peter after the resurrection, “Do you love Me?” He did not ask, “Do you love the miracles?” “Do you love the crowds?” “Do you love the ministry?” The question was deeply personal. “Do you love Me?” That same question echoes through every generation. Would you still pursue Him if the answer took longer? Would you still worship if the blessing was delayed? Would you still delight in Him if all you had was His presence? The soul that can answer “Yes” has discovered one of heaven’s greatest treasures. Stay Refreshed!

Note This:

🌿 Mature faith does not ask, “What can God give me?” It asks, “How can I know Him more?”

🛡️ Responsibility:

Today, worship God for who He is, not merely for what He has done. Let your praise rise from love rather than from results.

🙏 Prayer:

Father, I love You because You are worthy—not merely because You bless me. Purify my heart until my devotion is rooted in Your character and not in my circumstances. Let my worship remain steady in seasons of abundance and in seasons of waiting. May my greatest desire always be to know You more deeply and to love You more sincerely. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

🔥 Prophetic Declaration:

Jesus Christ is my greatest treasure. My love for Him will not be shaken by delay, disappointment, or difficulty. His presence is my reward, His love is my security, and His fellowship is my greatest joy. I will love the Giver more than every gift He could ever place in my hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
