I Began Loving What Matters Most

Topic: Who I Became While Following Jesus (5)

Focus: I Began Loving What Matters Most

🔥Theme:

Many people can tell you what God gave them after following Jesus. Fewer can describe who they have become. The greatest miracle of the Christian life is not merely changed circumstances—it is a changed heart. As we walk with Christ day after day, often without realizing it, He patiently shapes us into people who look more like Him.

📖 Key Verse:
“And we all… are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory…” — 2 Corinthians 3:18

Devotional:

One of the quietest miracles of following Jesus is that He changes what your heart desires. When I first came to Christ, I still measured success the way the world often does. I wanted recognition, achievement, comfort, and the assurance that life was moving according to my plans. There was nothing inherently wrong with many of those desires, but they occupied a place in my heart that belonged to Christ alone. As I continued walking with Him, something began to change. The things that once consumed my thoughts slowly lost their hold on me. I found greater joy in spending time with God than in receiving the applause of people. His approval became more important than public recognition. I began to value faithfulness more than fame, character more than achievement, and obedience more than personal ambition.

📖 Scripture Reading:

  • Matthew 6:21, 33 — Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also… Seek first the kingdom of God.
  • Philippians 3:7–8 — I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
  • Colossians 3:1–2 — Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

💧 Refreshing for the Day:

Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Those words became increasingly true in my life. My greatest treasure was no longer what I could gain from this world, but the privilege of knowing Him. The more I discovered His beauty, the less satisfying the temporary things of life became. This does not mean I stopped working hard or pursuing excellence. Rather, Christ changed the reason I pursued them. My work became an act of worship. My gifts became opportunities to serve. My success became something to steward for His glory instead of something to build my identity upon.

Following Jesus reordered my heart. He did not merely remove lesser loves; He replaced them with a greater love—Himself. Looking back, I realize that one of the greatest evidences of His work in my life is not that I own more, know more, or have accomplished more. It is that I love Jesus more than I did before. That is who I became while following Him. Stay Refreshed!

Note This:

🌿 Christ does not simply ask for first place in your life; He lovingly becomes the greatest desire of your heart.

🛡️ Responsibility:

Take a few quiet moments today to examine what occupies your heart most. Ask yourself, “What do I treasure most?” Invite the Lord to reorder your affections so that He remains the center of your love and devotion.

🙏 Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for patiently transforming my heart. Forgive me for the times I have loved temporary things more than I have loved You. Let my greatest joy be found in Your presence and my deepest satisfaction be rooted in knowing You. Teach me to seek first Your Kingdom, to treasure what is eternal, and to live each day for Your glory. May my love for You continue to grow until it shapes every part of my life. In Your precious name, Amen!

🌿 Prophetic Declaration:

My heart belongs to the Lord. Every misplaced affection is being replaced with a deeper love for Jesus Christ. I will seek His Kingdom above all else, delight in His presence, and live for His glory. My priorities are being aligned with heaven, my desires are being purified by the Holy Spirit, and my life will reflect the surpassing worth of knowing Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
