O GOD, MY SOUL THIRSTS FOR YOU (3)

TIMES OF REFRESHING ONLINE DAILY DEVOTIONAL www.thefountspring.org

DATE: MONDAY, 25 MARCH 2024

So, beloved, exploring the Psalmist declaration, “… my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.” (Psalm 63:1), depicts that in the depths of the human experience lies a longing –- a yearning that transcends the temporal and reaches towards the eternal. It is a longing for connection, for meaning, for fulfillment. It is a longing for God. But how do we cultivate such a longing for God? How do we nurture a soul that yearns for Him with such intensity? And the psalmist, yet again, captures this profound response in Psalm 42:1-2, it says,

SCRIPTURE: “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?” – Psalm 42:1-2 (NKJV)

REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: So, to cultivate and nurture a soul that yearns for God begins with a recognition of our need. Just as the deer pants for water in the midst of a dry and weary land, so too must we acknowledge our own spiritual thirst. We live in a world that offers countless distractions and counterfeit sources of fulfillment, but they leave our souls empty and unsatisfied. It is only when we recognize our desperate need for God that our souls begin to long for Him. Stay Refreshed!

NOTE THIS: Recognizing our desperate need for God is the first step towards true fulfillment. It’s in acknowledging this need that our souls awaken to a longing for Him.

RESPONSIBILITY: So, let’s take time to honestly reflect on our lives, abandon the pursuits that have left us feeling empty and unsatisfied, and recognize our need for God.

PRAYER: Merciful Father, forgive us for seeking satisfaction in all the wrong places. Help us to discern the emptiness of worldly pursuits and to turn our hearts towards You, the only source of true fulfillment. Awaken within us a deep longing for Your presence, and let our souls thirst for You, like parched land yearns for rain. In the name of Jesus, we pray, Amen!

PROPHETIC WORD: And may this longing drive us to seek the Lord diligently, to prioritize His kingdom above all else. In the name of Jesus, Amen!

BIBLE TEXTS: Psalm 42:1-2; 63:1
