UNDERSTANDING THE PATIENCE OF FAITH (1)
TIMES OF REFRESHING DAILY DEVOTIONAL www.thefountspring.org
DATE: SUNDAY, 11 AUGUST 2024
Faith and patience are two sides of the same coin in the Christian life. Faith is often celebrated as the force that moves mountains, while patience is sometimes overlooked, even though it plays an equally crucial role in our spiritual journey. The writer of Hebrews encourages believers to “imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised” (Hebrews 6:12). This verse reveals that faith alone isn’t enough; it must be accompanied by patience.
SCRIPTURE: “We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.” — Hebrews 6:12 (NIV)
REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: So, faith is trusting in God’s timing and promises, believing that what He has said will come to pass. However, these promises often do not materialize immediately. Abraham, often called the father of faith, was given a promise by God that he would be the father of many nations. But Abraham had to wait 25 years before Isaac, the child of promise, was born. During this time, his faith was tested, and it was patience that sustained him. We often find ourselves in situations where we have prayed, believed, and yet, we wait. It’s in this waiting that our faith is tested and refined. Patience in these times is not passive resignation but an active trust in God’s perfect timing. It’s believing that He is at work even when we cannot see the evidence. Stay Refreshed!
NOTE THIS: Understanding the patience of faith is about recognizing that God’s timing is perfect, even when it doesn’t align with ours.
RESPONSIBILITY: So, beloved, as we wait on God, our faith is strengthened, our character is shaped, and we are prepared to receive the promises He has for us.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of faith, knowing that You are good, and Your promises are true. Yet, we also acknowledge that waiting can be difficult, and our patience often wears thin. We ask for Your strength to endure with patience, trusting that Your timing is perfect. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
PROPHETIC WORD: May God help us to see the purpose in our waiting, and let it draw us closer to Him, deepening our faith and refining our character. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
