THE SECRETS TO ACCESSING THE HEART OF GOD (5)

So, I keep pondering over why the people would seek to access the heart of God, but God declared David as a man after His own heart (1 Sam 13:14). What does this mean? What did David do differently to earn Him this special regard to God? And to understand why David is described this way, we must first look at the circumstances that preceded this declaration from the Lord.
SCRIPTURE: For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance is like the wickedness of idolatry… (1 Samuel 15:23 BSB)
REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: Recall this declaration came when King Saul had disobeyed and rejected the Word of the Lord (1 Sam 13:8-9). However, based on this we shall be taking out the silent traits of David that earned him the man after God’s own heart. But then, we should know that it is not our height nor our size nor how good looking we are that would earn us “a people after God’s own heart”, but it is by the way we live our life. So, let’s sincerely analyze it; When Saul was called out for his disobedience, he made excuses rather than taking responsibility for his actions. As compared to David’s integrity, David admitted when he was wrong and took responsibility for his mistakes, which was a sign of his deep integrity.
We see this in 1 Sam 22:9-19, when Saul was pursuing him, and David lied to Ahimelech the priest to get food for his men. David’s lie eventually led to the death of 85 priests, as well as the entire town of Nob. But when David learned of this, he admitted it was his fault, and took in the sole survivor of the priesthood settlement. And from this we could pick “integrity” as another trait we must strive to have for us to have access to the heart of God. We will continue with other striking traits that made David a man after God’s own heart tomorrow, but till then, Stay Refreshed!
