Again, beloved, another sure practical way we can grow and nurture the joy of the Lord is by guarding our hearts against negativity. You see, negativity and pessimism can stifle the growth of joy. So, we need to protect the garden of our hearts. And this requires being deliberate about what we sow in our heart. The apostle Paul was so explicit about this when he wrote to the Philippians in chapter 4 verse 8; he said,
Bottom of FormSCRIPTURE: Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” – Philippians 4:8 (NIV)
REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: So, protecting the garden of our hearts also requires being intentional about what we allow in it. Yes, it’s true. We must also limit exposure to negative influences that drain our joy and focus on things that are pure, lovely, and praiseworthy. Stay Refreshed!
NOTE THIS: Protecting our hearts against negativity allows the joy of the Lord to thrive.
RESPONSIBILITY: Let’s take inventory of the media, conversations, and activities we engage in. Are there any changes we can make to create a more positive environment that nurtures our joy?
PRAYER: Oh LORD, give us the grace to guard our heart against negativity and pessimism, in the name of Jesus’ Amen!
PROPHETIC WORD: As we consciously guard our heart against negativity, may our joy begin to flourish again, in the name of Jesus’ Amen!
