Have you wondered why you struggle with that particular sin? Each time you are falling for it, you are in tears and wished you never did. You have prayed and fasted about it; yet at any slightest trigger you found you had fallen again. Don’t worry, as God is helping us, we shall be seeing from the scriptures, proven instances on how to overcome sin.

SCRIPTURE:

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind… (Romans 12:2) NIV

REFRESHING FOR THE DAY:

Every sin starts in the mind and forms in our thought, therefore, take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

The Scripture makes it crystal clear how we can overcome sin. It isn’t with multiple steps. It isn’t by trying really hard. It isn’t even by getting super spiritual, but rather;

i.             By walking in the Spirit: Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh, (Gal. 5:17). By the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the flesh, (Rom. 8:13).

ii.            By the Word of God: Jesus overcome by the Word of God (Matthew 4:1-4). So, to experience victory over sinful habits, we need to daily dwell on God’s Word and claim His promises through prayer that we may be more than conquerors (Romans 8:37) and always triumph (2 Corinthians 2:14).

iii.          By Submitting yourself to God and resisting the devil, (James 4:7): We need to run away from sin and the appearance of sin (2 Timothy 2:22; 1 Thessalonians 5:22). Joseph ran from Potiphar’s wife when she tempted him and he overcame sin, (see Genesis 39:11-12).

Beloved in conclusion, I counsel you with words of Martin Luther, he once said, “You cannot keep the birds from flying over your head, but you can keep them from building a nest in your hair.” We can choose to give in or to resist and refuse to make provision for sin, (Romans 13:14). And remove ourselves from the association with sin. (James 1:14-15). Stay Focused!

NOTE THIS:

Every sin starts in the mind and forms in our thought, therefore take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
