THE WORLD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT CHRIST (4)

TIMES OF REFRESHING DAILY DEVOTIONAL www.thefountspring.org

DATE: FRIDAY, 31 MAY 2024

Furthermore, King Solomon embarked on a quest to find the meaning of life “under the sun,” a phrase he used to describe a life lived from a purely earthly perspective, without considering God. His exploration includes wisdom, pleasure, and work. Each of these pursuits, he concludes, is ultimately “meaningless,” like “chasing after the wind.” Despite being the wisest man of his time, he acknowledged the limitations of human wisdom. He observed that both the wise and the foolish share the same fate—death (Ecclesiastes 2:14-16). This observation led him to question the value of wisdom itself, apart from a higher divine purpose.

SCRIPTURE: “Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” What do people gain from all their labors at which they toil under the sun? (Ecclesiastes 1:2-3, NIV)

REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: Solomon’s reflections point to a crucial truth: without God, life lacks meaning. He recognized that true fulfillment and purpose cannot be found in earthly things but only in a relationship with God. In Ecclesiastes 12:13, he concluded, “Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.” This final exhortation underscores the importance of living in reverence and obedience to God. Stay Refreshed!

NOTE THIS: In embracing Solomon’s conclusion, we acknowledge that only through God can we find true purpose and satisfaction.

RESPONSIBILITY: So, beloved, let the Word of God guide us to prioritize our spiritual journey and invest in what holds eternal value.

PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, we ask for Your wisdom to live our lives with an eternal perspective. Guide us to invest our time, energy, and resources in what truly matters—our relationship with You and the impact we can have for Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

PROPHETIC WORD: When we are tempted to chase after material wealth, status, or fleeting pleasures, may the Lord remind us that these things cannot satisfy the deep longings of our souls. In the name of Jesus, Amen!

BIBLE TEXTS: Eccl 1:2-3
