SERVING GOD FOR WHO HE IS, NOT JUST FOR WHAT HE GIVES (6)
TIMES OF REFRESHING DAILY DEVOTIONAL www.thefountspring.org
DATE: MONDAY, 10 JUNE 2024
So, beloved, having known and understood the consequences of reducing our service to God to a mere series of transaction and selfish desires, let us now explore some practical steps to move beyond the spiritual anomaly. Number one, genuinely reflect on your motives of coming to God. Regularly examine the reasons behind your prayers and actions. Ask yourself if you are seeking God’s hand (what He can give) or His heart (who He is). This reflection can help realign your motivations with a genuine desire to know and love God.
SCRIPTURE: “I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.” — Jeremiah 17:10 (NIV):
REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: Number two, pursue intimacy with God. Build a relationship with God based on love and reverence. Spend time in prayer, worship, and meditation, seeking to know Him more intimately. This will shift your focus from what God can give to who He is. And number three, find contentment in God alone. Learn to be content in every circumstance by relying on God’s presence and sufficiency (Philippians 4:11-13). True contentment comes from recognizing that God is our greatest treasure, far beyond any material blessing. Stay Refreshed!
NOTE THIS: Persistent prayer demonstrates faith and reliance on God’s sovereignty.
RESPONSIBILITY: So, beloved, continue to pray even when you don’t immediately see answers or get what you want. Trust in God’s timing and wisdom.
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You with a humble heart, seeking to examine the motivations behind my prayers and actions. Lord, search me and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. Reveal any selfish or misguided intentions within me and lead me in Your everlasting way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
PROPHETIC WORD: May the Lord help us to seek His heart above His hand and desire a deeper relationship with Him rather than merely seeking what He can provide. In the name of Jesus, Amen!
BIBLE TEXTS: Jeremiah 17:10
