SERVING GOD FOR WHO HE IS, NOT JUST FOR WHAT HE GIVES (5)
TIMES OF REFRESHING DAILY DEVOTIONAL www.thefountspring.org
DATE: SUNDAY, 9 JUNE 2024
So, beloved, the disadvantages of a transactional faith and conditional commitment to God are destructive. Number one, it leads to shallow and superficial relationship with God. When our interactions with God are based solely on what we can get, we miss out on the deep, intimate connection that comes from truly knowing and loving God for who He is. Secondly. It increases spiritual frustration and confusion. When prayers seem unanswered or blessings are delayed, we may feel let down or abandoned by God, questioning His goodness and faithfulness.
SCRIPTURE: “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” — Psalm 73:25-26 (NIV)
REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: It encourages materialistic focus and places undue emphasis on material blessings, health, and success. And shifts our focus from eternal values and spiritual growth to temporal gains, potentially fostering greed and a consumerist mentality. Stay Refreshed!
NOTE THIS: Transactional faith ultimately limits our spiritual life, reducing a vibrant, loving relationship with God to a mere exchange of services.
RESPONSIBILITY: So, beloved, let us focus on worshiping God for who He is, not just for what He can do.
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You, asking for Your forgiveness for the times I have treated my relationship with You as a contract rather than a covenant of love and trust. Strengthen my faith so that it remains steadfast, regardless of my circumstances. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
PROPHETIC WORD: May our commitment to God be unwavering and rooted in genuine love and reverence for who He is. In the name of Jesus, Amen!
BIBLE TEXTS: Psalm 73:25-26; 100:2-3; 139: 23-24
