SERVING GOD FOR WHO HE IS, NOT JUST FOR WHAT HE GIVES (4)

TIMES OF REFRESHING DAILY DEVOTIONAL www.thefountspring.org

DATE: SATURDAY, 8 JUNE 2024

As believers, too many of us are guilty of this matter. We often fall into the trap of viewing our relationship with God through a transactional lens, operating on a quid-pro-quo basis: “I will follow and serve God as long as He meets my needs and grants my requests.” No wonder we often backslide when our needs are not met, when it seems our prayers are not answered. It’s because we come to God for a reason, and when that reason is not met, we are bitter. This mindset is an enemy our destiny and reduces our faith to a conditional contract, rather than embracing the unconditional covenant of love and trust that God desires with us.

SCRIPTURE: “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:25-26 (NIV)

REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: The Israelites in the wilderness often exhibited conditional commitment. When God provided manna and quail, they praised Him. However, when faced with hardships, they grumbled and questioned His intentions (Exodus 16-17). Their wavering faith prevented many from entering the Promised Land. Stay Refreshed!

NOTE THIS: True faith calls us to seek God’s heart above His hand, finding our greatest treasure in His presence, not in His gifts.

RESPONSIBILITY: So, beloved, let us focus on worshiping God for who He is, not just for what He can do.

PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You acknowledging that my faith has sometimes been based on a quid-pro-quo mindset, seeking to follow and serve You only when my needs are met and my requests granted. Forgive me for treating our relationship as a conditional contract rather than an unconditional covenant of love and trust. Help me to transform my heart and mind, so that I desire You above all else. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

PROPHETIC WORD: May the Lord s strengthen our faith to remain firm in every circumstance, trusting in His unchanging nature and steadfast love. In the name of Jesus, Amen!

BIBLE TEXTS: Psalm 73:25-26; 100:2-3; 139: 23-24
