SERVING GOD FOR WHO HE IS, NOT JUST FOR WHAT HE GIVES

TIMES OF REFRESHING DAILY DEVOTIONAL www.thefountspring.org

DATE: WEDNESDAY, 5 JUNE 2024

In our journey of faith, it is easy to fall into the mindset of serving God with the expectation of receiving blessings in return. While God indeed delights in blessing His children, our service to Him should be motivated by a deeper reason: His very nature and who He is. God is not a transactional deity. He is the Creator, the Sustainer, the Alpha and the Omega. Our relationship with Him is not a contract but a covenant, rooted in love, grace, and His eternal character. When we focus solely on what we can get from God—whether it’s material blessings, health, or success—we reduce our relationship with Him to a mere exchange.

SCRIPTURE: “Serve the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.” — Psalm 100:2-3 (NIV)

REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: When our relationship with God is primarily focused on what we can receive, we run the risk of reducing our faith to a series of transactions. This approach can undermine the depth and richness of our spiritual life, making our relationship with God conditional and superficial. Stay Refreshed!

NOTE THIS: Our relationship with Him is not a contract but a covenant, rooted in love, grace, and His eternal character. When we focus solely on what we can get from God—whether it’s material blessings, health, or success—we reduce our relationship with Him to a mere exchange.

RESPONSIBILITY: Take time to reflect on why you serve God. Are your actions driven by a desire for rewards, or out of love and reverence for who He is? Ask God to purify your heart and align your motives with His.

PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for who You are. Help us to serve You with pure hearts, motivated by love and reverence for Your holy name. Purify our motives and let our lives be a reflection of Your love and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

PROPHETIC WORD: May our service to God be an act of worship, glorifying Him in all that we do. In the name of Jesus, Amen!

BIBLE TEXTS: Psalm 100:2-3
