SEEKING JESUS THE RIGHT WAY
TIMES OF REFRESHING ONLINE DAILY DEVOTIONAL www.thefountspring.org
DATE: TUESDAY, 10 AUGUST 2021
Yesterday we started with “Seek nothing but Jesus”, and we were able to establish the fact that there is nothing more important to seek for in life than to seek for Jesus and the eternal life that He can give. Drawing insights from the Scripture also made us to understand that when we seek, and found Jesus, we have found everything. So, today and in subsequent days, we shall be exploring in details the right ways to seek Jesus. But now, let us look at “seek Jesus for the right reason”.
Sometimes, we seek Jesus for what we will get from Him—material comfort and not actually for eternal life, (John 6:22-27). By so doing, we seek Him in error and for the wrong reason.
SCRIPTURE: Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. (John 6:26) ESV
REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: We limit, refute and deny God’s blessings and His move in our life by seeking vain material comforts to eternal life.
In John 6:22-27, we saw and rightly understood, the miracle of the loaves and fish should have turned the people to Christ as their Messiah, who could satisfy their spiritual hunger for time and eternity. But their minds were on the temporal and material, rather than on the eternal and spiritual. They wanted their stomachs filled, but they weren’t seeking Jesus for eternal life. They sought Jesus only for what He could do for them materially.
Beloved the point is, we should not be so caught up with working to put food on the table that we neglect working for “the food which endures to eternal life.” Jesus is the way to eternal life, (John 14:16). And He exhorts us in John 6:27, “Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you” … Stay Lifted!
NOTE THIS: We limit, refute and deny God’s blessings and His move in our life by seeking vain material comforts to eternal life.
RESPONSIBILITY: Seek Jesus for eternal life and not for what you will get from Him.
PRAYER: O LORD, cause me to seek You for the right reason and not for vain sake, in the name of Jesus’ Amen! (Go ahead and continue to pray)
PROPHETIC WORD: As you seek Jesus, may you find satisfaction in Him, in the name of Jesus’ Amen!
