PRAYERS ALONE ARE NEVER ENOUGH (9)

TIMES OF REFRESHING DAILY DEVOTIONAL www.thefountspring.org

DATE: MONDAY, 24 JUNE 2024

Prayer is where we seek God’s direction and blessings, but action is where we show our commitment to serve and make a difference. Imagine a volunteer who dreams of making a significant impact in their community. They pray daily for God to use them to help others, alleviate suffering, and bring about positive change. However, despite their prayers, they do not take the initiative to sign up for volunteer opportunities, engage with local organizations, or reach out to those in need. The volunteer’s prayer is important, but without the willingness to take action and engage in service, their impact will remain unrealized.

SCRIPTURE: “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” — James 2:14-17 (NIV)

REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: So, beloved, our spiritual lives function similarly. We may pray for opportunities to serve and make a difference, but God calls us to step out and actively participate in His work. Just as the volunteer must take initiative and engage with their community, we must take intentional steps to fulfill God’s calling in our lives. Think about the areas in your life where you’ve been seeking opportunities to serve and make a difference. Are you actively taking steps to engage and help others? Reflect on how you can combine your prayers with intentional acts of service and outreach. Stay Refreshed!

NOTE THIS: Just as the volunteer must take initiative to make an impact in their community, we must actively engage in service to fulfill God’s calling. Embrace the discipline of service alongside your prayers, trusting that God will use your efforts to bring about positive change and hope.

RESPONSIBILITY: What areas of service or outreach have you been praying about? Are you also taking the necessary steps to engage and help others? It’s time to move from prayer to action, trusting that God will work through your efforts to bring about transformation and hope.

PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the desire to serve and make a difference in our communities. Help us to understand that while prayer is essential, so is our willingness to take action. Give us the courage and compassion to step out and engage with those in need. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

PROPHETIC WORD: May our efforts be blessed and bring glory to God’s name. In the name of Jesus, Amen!
