MATTHEW 6:33 EXPANDED

TIMES OF REFRESHING ONLINE DAILY DEVOTIONAL www.thefountspring.org

DATE: FRIDAY, 8 JULY 2022

Matthew 6:33 is one of the most valued verses of the Scripture that most people often misrepresent. We tend to pick out from the verse the items that are so important to us, and we would ignore the other. The verse reads thus, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (ESV). There are three main phrases highlighted in the verse, “seek first the kingdom of God”, “His righteousness”, and “all these things be added to you”. And when it’s preached, we are so inclined to the very last phrase, “all these things will be added to you”, some other translations would have it this way, “He will give you everything you need”. And so, to achieve that, we grudgingly begin to attempt to approach the words of the verse. But lest we forget, the bible says in Jeremiah 29:13,

SCRIPTURE: You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13 NIV)

REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: Beloved, the Word of God is complete and whole, it’s never approached bit by bit. So, Matthew 6:33 is a whole and a complete verse.
And as such, every item contained in it is as important as the other and would be treated concomitantly and in tandem. No item would exist without the other. And so, for a person to seek the kingdom of God, he MUST also seek His righteousness—the very nature, attitude, and the character of God. In fact, God’s righteousness is the fragrance of the kingdom. It’s what makes the kingdom of God so exciting and seeking exhilarating. So, we submit, until a man begins to seek the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, he may never experience the reward thereafter. Stay Refreshed!

NOTE THIS: So, the qualification to have all these things added unto us is, we must begin to engage God’s righteousness as we seek for the kingdom of God.

RESPONSIBILITY: Ask God for the grace to seek Him with all your heart.

PRAYER: O LORD, give me the grace to seek You with all my heart, without reservation, in the name of Jesus’ Amen! (Go ahead and pray for other intentions as the Spirit leads)

PROPHETIC WORD: As you seek God with all your heart, may you find Him, in the name of Jesus’ Amen!

BIBLE TEXTS: Matthew 6:33, Jer 29:13
