“IT IS FINISHED”: THE CRY OF REDEMPTION
TIMES OF REFRESHING ONLINE DAILY DEVOTIONAL www.thefountspring.org
DATE: FRIDAY, 15 APRIL 2022
Up until the time of Christ’s death, there was a system set in place where sacrifices had to be offered for sin. It was so difficult, and it was not easy. Many sacrifices were required for all types of things. It was the only way people could be forgiven; it was the only way to be made right again. But the hope that we have now because of Christ’s death on the cross and His ultimate sacrifice on our behalf is this: He completed the work. It is finished. He paid the sacrifice in full on our behalf.
SCRIPTURE: When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and [voluntarily] gave up His spirit. (John 19:30 AMP)
REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: So, let us look at the significance of Jesus’ last word on the cross “It is finished”. The word “finished” is actually from the Greek word “tetelestai”, which also means “paid in full”. It declares that all the work the Father had sent Him to accomplish, (John 3:34) was now completed, particularly the work of bearing the penalty of our sins. But note the peculiarity about this word, it indicates ‘finished’ at a point in time and would also continue to be ‘finished’ at all times.
Certainly, this is the work Christ came to do. He came to “finish” God’s work of salvation in us. He came to “pay it in full,” the entire penalty for our sins. No other payment is needed. And Jesus is still at work in our world today in powerful ways. Stay Refreshed!
NOTE THIS: It is finished is not just a word, but it’s a cry of redemption.
RESPONSIBILITY: So, as we walk through to the calvary with Jesus today, let’s continue to meditate on this word of our salvation.
PRAYER: O LORD JESUS, thank You for saving me and redeeming my soul. Give me the grace to always abide in You, in the name of Jesus’ Amen! (Go ahead and continue to pray)
PROPHETIC WORD: As the redeemed, may the blood of Jesus continues to speak great things for you and yours, in the name of Jesus’ Amen!
BIBLE TEXTS: John 19:30, Jn 3:34
