COURAGE IN THE FACE OF FEAR (2)

TIMES OF REFRESHING ONLINE DAILY DEVOTIONAL www.thefountspring.org

DATE: SATURDAY, 14 OCTOBER 2023

So, beloved, it has been established that courage is not the absence of fear but the determination to move forward in the face of it. And fear is a powerful emotion, and something that we all face at various points in our lives. Yes, it’s true. It can be overwhelming, paralyzing, and make us question our abilities. However, it’s essential to remember that fear doesn’t have to control or define us. Thus, here are few steps to help us navigate our fears and ultimately overcome them.

Bottom of FormSCRIPTURE: “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].” — 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)

REFRESHING FOR THE DAY: So, the first step in overcoming fear is to acknowledge it. We must learn to acknowledge our fears and admit to ourselves that we’re feeling afraid. Yes, it’s not bad to be afraid nor feel that way. In fact, recognizing and admitting our fears is an act of acceptance, not surrender. It doesn’t make us weak or inadequate. Rather, it’s a sign of strength. We will continue with other steps tomorrow, but till then, Stay Refreshed!

NOTE THIS: Acknowledging our fear can help release the emotional pressure it creates, making room for more rational and calm thinking.

RESPONSIBILITY: So, as we learn to admit our fears, let us ask God for the grace and strength to overcome them and continue our journey through life with confidence.

PRAYER:  O GOD, give us the grace to admit our fears, and the courage to overcome them, in the name of Jesus’ Amen!

PROPHETIC WORD: As we admit our fears with courage, may the Lord help us to overcome them, in the name of Jesus’ Amen!

BIBLE TEXTS: 2 Timothy 1:7, Joshua 1:9
